Despite the tame demand, silage maize prices are holding up easily. For good quality silage maize you now pay at least €70 per tonne, free of charge. That is considerably more expensive than in other years shortly after the New Year. Historically, prices remain fairly stable until the summer and traders see no reason why this year would be any different.

The demand for silage maize varies greatly per region. In Friesland (due to mouse damage) and in the Achterhoek and Twente (due to the drought in 2019), dairy farmers are registering as buyers. In other parts, supplies are generally sufficient. Straw, meadow hay and feed potatoes are also sufficiently available.

Beer grains and steam peels
Beer spent grain is limitedly available with delivered prices per percent dry matter between €2,70 (south) to €2,85 in the north. The potato steam peels have been reduced in price by various suppliers to €2 per percent dry matter. At this time of year the potatoes are peeled a little thicker and that improves their availability.
