RIVM released the complete dataset of nitrogen emissions in the Netherlands on Tuesday (January 7). This had been requested for some time by the Mesdag Dairy Fund and Nitrogen Claim foundations. The organizations wonder whether the conclusions drawn by RIVM about nitrogen emissions from Dutch agriculture are actually correct.
Mesdag Dairy Fund and Nitrogen Claim still have filed a lawsuit to get all the data on the table. The data set previously released by RIVM was incomplete, so that the calculations could ultimately not be performed. According to the RIVM, this information could not be released three weeks ago, because it may still contain confidential information.
The judge indicated in the verdict that RIVM had to release the figures, but was allowed to determine the time itself. Coincidence or not, a day after the verdict, the Senate voted in favor of the Emergency Nitrogen Act. Mesdag Dairy Fund and Nitrogen Claim are now going to make the calculations again by their own specialists. RIVM lets in Trouw know that if these mathematicians do their calculations well, the conclusions should be exactly the same as they have drawn.
Jan Cees Vogelaar, chairman of the Mesdag Dairy Fund Foundation, maintains his position that agriculture minister Carola Schouten previously incorrectly informed the House of Representatives by saying that all nitrogen emission figures were public. In the end, that turns out not to be the case. According to him, this must have consequences.
