DCA significantly expands the number of dairy quotations

6 February 2020 - Wouter Baan

DCA-Markets, part of the DCA Group in Lelystad, is going to significantly expand the number of dairy quotations. In addition to the existing quotations for spot milk and cream, among other things, there will be new quotations for milk powder (skimmed, full-fat and whey), butter, cheddar and mozzarella.

René van 't Riet of DCA-Markets: "With the new quotations, we are now making a very large part of the valorisation of raw milk transparent. This is good for the sector and is in line with the transparency that the European Union enforces with new legislation that will come into effect from 1 January 2021."

DCA-Markets has been compiling various dairy quotations for years. The spot listings, which have been around for more than 10 years, are leading in the Netherlands and beyond, according to Van 't Riet. The foil cheese quotations for Gouda and Edam were introduced in 2019. As a result, DCA-Markets has become, in its own words, the most important Price Reporting Agent in these markets.

This is further supported by the addition of the new quotations. The quotations are published on Thursday afternoon at half past three on the DCA Markets site en Boerenbusiness.NL. The quotations are compiled according to a fixed method.

Fixed method
Van 't Riet explains: "DCA-Markets uses the same methodology for the dairy segment as a whole. This means that prices are collected on Thursday from a selected price panel. They report the trade they have done in that 'current week' in the The product concerned, for which fixed specifications have been drawn up. Those specifications have been established together with the sector and are transparent to everyone. Just like the methodology that is used. These are all rules as laid down by the EU."

The first publications of the new quotations are today, Thursday 6 February. Together with the existing quotations, the complete dairy pallet then consists of: Spot milk (the Netherlands, northern and southern Germany), cream, skimmed milk concentrate, butter, whole milk powder, skimmed milk powder (feed and food), whey powder (feed and food), mozzarella , cheddar mild and cheddar curd.
