The mood in the milk powder market has turned, as a result of the outbreaks of the Coronavirus in China. However, the cheese prices do not suffer here...
The price of skimmed milk powder has been the highlight of the dairy market in recent months. Since the beginning of 2018, prices have been on the rise - albeit with some fluctuations. This increase came to a temporary end at the beginning of February. This is due to the outbreaks of the coronavirus in China, which creates great uncertainty. It is difficult to estimate when the normal rhythm of life will return in China.
Skimmed milk powder in the min
Skimmed milk powder is one of the new listings within the DCA-Markets dairy range. The quotation debuts in the red (-€44 to €2.586 per tonne). The prices of whole milk powder and whey powder are also moving downwards. The lower skimmed milk powder prices also put pressure on the quotation of skimmed milk concentrate. One stroke of luck is that prices in Europe are under much less pressure than on the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) in New Zealand.
Cheese prices, on the other hand, continue to rise. The DCA foil cheese quotation increases this week by €30 to €3.150 per tonne. The quotations for Edam, cheddar and mozzarella also continued their good run. This is positive for milk prices now that the milk powder market may be entering a slower phase.
