Contrary to expectations, milk prices will fall at the beginning of 2020. After Bel Leerdammer announced this week that it had reduced the milk price for January, Cono Kaasmakers is now also following ...
Cono's basic milk price drops by €0,79 to €34,52 per 100 kilos. This price is calculated on the basis of an annual supply of 1 million kilos and fat and protein contents of 4,41% and 3,47% respectively. Cono depreciates both the fat and protein prices. The price of fat drops from €0,03 to €3,08 per kilo. The price of protein drops from €0,19 to €7,09 per kilo. Including all bonuses and premiums, the milk price can rise to €38,27 per 100 kilos.
The reduction in January is the second in a row. The milk price also fell in December, although this was because the autumn bonus was cancelled. Cono is not the only milk processor that has written down the payment price. Also Call Leerdammer did that this week. Nevertheless, both processors are still at the top of the list milk price comparator from Boerenbusiness.
Higher cheese prices
For both Cono and Bel Leerdammer, cheese prices are an important pillar in the valorization of raw milk. And cheese prices are showing an upward trend. For example, the DCA foil cheese quotation for Gouda increased this week by €30 to €3.150 per tonne. The quotations for Edam, cheddar and mozzarella also continued their good run.
The lower milk prices at both processors therefore come as a surprise. Especially because FrieslandCampina has increased the milk price for February. Arla, A-ware and DOC Kaas chose to keep the milk price stable this month.
