According to the Russian statistical service Rostat, dairy farmers in the country again produced more milk last year than last year. Despite the growth, Russia is not yet meeting the production target that the country has set itself.
In total, 31,3 million tons of raw milk was produced, 2,4% more than last year. Despite the increased milk production last year, the target self-sufficiency percentage of 90% was not achieved. Last year this remained at 85,1%.
Milk deliveries to dairies increased by 4,8% to 19,6 million tons. The rest is processed independently by backyard farms. The manufacturers have used the increased raw material supply to expand the production of milk powder. Compared to 2018, production increased by 16% to 171.000 tons.
More cheese produced
The production volume of butter at 260.000 tons was approximately the same as in 2018. The import volume, on the other hand, increased by 28% to 115.000 tons. The import volume of the main supplier New Zealand doubled.
Cheese production grew by 2019% in 10, while that of cottage cheese fell by more than 7%. The production of both manufacturers together grew slightly, by 1% to 981.000 tons. The import of these goods has increased more strongly, namely by 9% to 272.000 tons.
