Australia collects more milk, New Zealand does not

The milk collection in Australia and New Zealand for March is quite variable. In Australia, the milk supply is increasing considerably, while the milk supply in New Zealand is actually lower than last year.

Australian milk supplies increased considerably in March compared to last year. Milk production there is recovering from a dry period over the past 2 years. In New Zealand, the milk supply is actually lower than last year. Dairy group Fonterra has already estimated in advance that milk supplies would be lower due to the drought.

Diary Australia figures show more milk was collected in March than in the same month last year. The milk supply this month amounted to approximately 643.3 thousand tons. Last year, the milk supply in the period in question was 600.8 thousand tons. This means that the supply is 7,1% higher than last year and is also above the 5-year average.

The fat percentage has remained at the same level as last year, an average of 4,44%. The protein content has changed somewhat compared to last year, it has increased by 0,09% to 3.52%.

New Zealand
Figures from the New Zealand government agency DCANZ show that the milk collection for March this year is lower than last year. A total of 1,680 million tons of milk was supplied in March. Last year the supply amounted to 1,713 million tons in the same month. This means that milk supply has decreased by 1,9% compared to last year. This means that the milk supply is lower than last year, but the milk supply is also below the 5-year average.

Compared to February this year, the milk supply has also decreased to 1,875 million tons, which is a decrease of 10,4% compared to this milk supply of March. This is the result of the seasonal decline.
