Russian milk production in the first quarter of 2020 has increased significantly compared to the first quarter in 2019. According to figures from the Russian Federal Statistic Service (Rosstat), the country produced 4,36 million tons of milk in the first quarter and production grew. in the 30 leading milk-producing regions.
With an annual milk production of 31 million tons in 2019, Russia ranks 5the place in global milk production. According to Rosstat's figures, the largest agricultural companies keep about 1 million head of livestock as of April 8,1. Of these, 3,25 million animals are dairy cows. The smaller family farms have about 2,79 million head of cattle, including 1,3 million dairy cows.
30 largest milk regions
The 'DairyNews' site has listed the 30 largest dairy regions in Russia and compared production with 2019. Milk production in all 30 regions has increased compared to last year. The Omsk region records the smallest increase with 3,2% and ends with 78.900 tons of milk on the 22th place in the list. The Kursk region is the biggest riser with 28,3% and thus ends in 25th place with 51.300 tons of milk.
The Kursk region, together with the Ryazan region (+23,3%) is increasing the most in production. This is because the 'EkoNiva' holding company has invested heavily in these regions. Two new regions have also entered the list, Chuvashia (2) and Kemerovo (30) where milk production increased by 29% and 12,3% respectively to 6 tons and 37.200 tons of milk.
Top 10
The top 10 in this list is made up of 9 regions that supplied more than 150.000 tons of milk in the first quarter. The number 1, Tatarstan, delivered 297.000 tons of milk, an increase of 6,9% compared to the previous year. The number 2 also supplied well over 200.000 tons of milk and production grew considerably (Krasnodar, 276.200 tons, +12,3%). The top 3 is closed by Voronezh (194.300 tons), which managed to break away from the 8,5 with an increase of 4%e spot and thus exceeds Udmartia (+4,7%, 181.600 tons).
The top 10 is now closed by the Vologda region, which has managed to work its way up from the 13e place. While the top 9 managed to deliver well over 150.000 tons, the number 10 still lags behind in production. Vologda produced 138.800 tons of milk, an increase of 6,8% compared to 2019. However, the number 11 (Altai) is close behind Vologda with 137.200 tons of milk.
