Despite the corona crisis, Lely has installed the first automatic Astronaut A5 milking system on Chinese territory. The outbreak of the virus caused some delay in the process, but the first robot is now up and running.
The robots will be installed on a so-called 'tourist farm' with 200 dairy cows in Shangdong province, near the city of Weifang. The installation was initially supposed to take place in January, but this has been postponed due to the outbreak of the corona virus. Because the borders are closed, Lely has chosen to carry out the installation remotely. They do this in collaboration with a Chinese technical team and by means of video guidance and training from the Netherlands.
A5 robot enters Chinese market
The Asian market is not unfamiliar territory for the robotics giant, but the Astronaut A5 marks its first time on Chinese soil. Lely indicates that the first sounds from China are positive. This first robot is running and reportedly needs the 2e robot are now also operable. The fact that the robots are installed remotely is a new development for the machine builder. The company sees this as a great success and an excellent example of teamwork.
The Chinese dairy farm where the robots run is a tourist attraction. Many Chinese born after the 80s have never seen a farm with live animals in their lives. Tourist farms are being set up near cities to introduce the Chinese population to farm life and the dairy products that come from there.
