FrieslandCampina closes cheese factory

2 July 2020 - Chanti Oussoren

Dairy processor FrieslandCampina has decided to permanently close its facility in Rijkevoort. The plant will go out of production later this year.

The decision to close the facility is based on the current production capacity of FrieslandCampina Dairy Essentials in relation to new insights into future milk production. Cost considerations also play an important role in the decision. The Rijkevoort branch will close on 1 October this year, eliminating all 86 jobs.

Hans Meeuwis, president of FrieslandCampina Dairy Essentials, says he is aware of the major impact the decision has for the company's employees. The company says it supports the employees involved in finding a new job within or outside FrieslandCampina.

The milk that was originally delivered to Rijkevoort will be distributed over several locations. It is not yet clear what will happen to the location. According to a spokesperson, the closure stands alone and is not necessarily a harbinger of multiple factory closures.
