Farmer's protest now also against supermarkets

6 July 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 7 comments

Because the supermarkets are benefiting from the corona crisis and the farmers are not, the farmer's protests are now also targeting them. Yesterday, Sunday 5 July, important arterial roads and distribution centers of several supermarkets were blocked throughout the country.

Near Eindhoven, several dozen protesting farmers blocked access to the airport. Actions are also expected in various places for today, according to information on social media.

Wild actions
According to Farmers Defense Force, wild actions are springing up like mushrooms. The national board itself does not know exactly where and when which action with what content is planned, says Frisian board member Sieta van Keimpema of Farmers Defense Force. The radical action group is also targeting the NVWA, which they believe can make farmers' lives even more difficult by checking for 'prohibited' protein-rich feed and increasing calf mortality.

Schouten setup reason
The reason for the wild actions is Minister Schouten's refusal to come up with a solution for nitrogen reduction via the feed track in the short term, in consultation with representatives of various dairy farming interest groups, that can be monitored and enforced.

According to Schouten, there is only one solution and that is the ministerial regulation drawn up by its officials and legally tested. Any other approach cannot withstand the legal test. "If there was another possibility, I would have thought of it myself," said the minister on Friday in front of the NOS camera.

Audience friendliness
Van Keimpema is not concerned about the nature of the actions, which can seriously disrupt traffic. "Every time we take action, the press asks whether it can get out of hand. That has never happened until now. If the police slowly take actions throughout the Netherlands, you will not hear anyone about it. turn to exercise our right to protest."

In the wild actions scattered throughout the country, people also appear who show their support for the protesting farmers, who, in their own words, are "satisfied every time, that bullshit from The Hague." Often these sympathizers work in the periphery of agriculture.

It is the already known drop. I don't think it's just one point. It is the accumulation of almost impracticable rules and laws and the interference of one or another agency that is/has been released on our sector (animal or vegetable, it doesn't matter). Research shows that this is the case, and after yet another research it is true again. Add to that the uncertain market situation at the moment... It'll stop for a while. Logical that people make themselves heard

quite coarse 6 July 2020
What about the support from the dairies? Do they really stand behind the dairy farmers who get on the tractor?
I don't hear or see anything about it, it could also be me, I'm just an arable farmer.
