Agriculture demands 5 cents higher milk price in supermarket

10 July 2020 - Erik Colenbrander - 8 comments

The supermarkets must increase the milk price by €0,05 across the entire dairy range. Interest group Agractie came up with this demand on the same day that the Albert Heijn distribution center in Zwolle was blocked.

The Central Bureau for Foodstuffs (CBL) in The Hague has been informed of this. Aggractie expects results within 7 days.

AH supply hindered
The correspondence with the CBL coincides with the blockade of the main distribution center of the country's largest supermarket chain Albert Heijn. This blockade probably means that more than 200 locations of the supermarket chain are no longer supplied with stock. The municipality of Zwolle had issued an ultimatum to the protesting farmers, after which the blockade was ended, which was started this morning and was lifted again at the beginning of the afternoon.

Following in the footsteps of Aldi Germany
Agractie demands from Dutch supermarkets to follow the German supermarket chain Aldi, which in Germany has also increased the price of milk in the dairy by €0,05. The extra turnover generated by the price increase should enable dairy farming to offset the additional costs of sustainability goals such as extra biodiversity, carbon sequestration and nitrogen emission reduction. Only in this way can dairy farming meet these explicit social wishes, Agractie said in a press statement.

They have to start somewhere, frog, and by the way, this group is also hit the hardest by that idiotic feeding measure, so completely justified.

o #sjaak, so all the dissatisfaction comes from 4 months, 4% less re in the feed for the dairy cows??. What do you think of a pig farmer who has been taking measures since 1990, and now eg in Brabant for the 2nd x bak mag. my neighbor had 1990 cows in 75, now he has 175 and has spent 0 euros to be precise on reducing measures! And now he has to do something for 4 months, and then it's banks!!. solidarity?
Drent 11 July 2020
well in arable farming there are also plenty of idiotic rules that cost a lot of money, also think that something like this should take place for the entire sector

Right Drent, we really only need 1 measure, nothing, and really nothing can be sold here that is not produced according to our requirements, just look at the rules for chlorine when importing potatoes

Why are none of the comments about a price increase?
Chat in the air.

In a market economy, with a few super strong supermarkets, farmers have nothing to contribute. Because competition should not be hindered.

So the government must set a minimum price for NL milk, let's say EUR 0,40/litre. That is approximately 14% more than the current price.

Then the milk production has to be reduced by the same percentage. Then we have partly solved the nitrogen problem.

Simple old-fashioned feed from your own country, grass silages, fodder beet, potatoes, perhaps supplemented with GPS maize or other grain. 8-9 tons of milk per cow, it will last for years longer, also tackle your animal welfare immediately. With 75-100 cows in milk, it is all manageable.
