The French milk supply is picking up somewhat after the corona crisis caused milk production to plummet. Milk supply is not far below last year's level. The same cannot be said about Italian milk production, which is still well below last year's level.
French dairy farmers managed to produce 2.022 million kilos of milk in the month of June. Production, with a marginal decrease of 0,4%, is not far below last year's level. It is also at a comparable level with the 5-year average of 2.021 kilos of milk. Compared to the production for the month of May, a significant decrease of 6,7% is observed. This decrease is due to the seasonal trend as the milk supply is moving towards its off-peak period in September.
Italy
For the month of May, the Italian milk supply amounted to 980.28 thousand kilos. Compared to the same period last year, the milk supply is approximately 2,8% lower. Milk production is 0,8% above the 5-year average. When milk production is compared with the production of the previous month, a decrease of about 3% is noted. Although the milk supply is still well below last year's level, it is less lower in percentage terms than last month. At the time, milk supply was no less than 7,4% lower than last year.
