There are reports from the market that the milk supply during this period is 10% lower - partly due to the record long heat wave - than expected. As a result, parties in the dairy market sometimes have to improvise to obtain enough milk to fill the completed orders to customers. Dutch spot milk has therefore become a scarce product, making the market for it very thin. If there is available milk, the price depends partly on the urgency and the buyer's desire to obtain this lot.

In these circumstances, prices for Dutch spot milk vary widely, making it difficult to compile a good guiding quotation. In this situation, the DCA spot price will increase by 'only' €1,50 to €34,50 per 100 kilos based on the input from the trade, but there is a good chance that this price will increase further next week. For Northern and Southern Germany, the DCA quotation for week 34 also amounts to €34,50 per 100 kilos. Unlike in the Netherlands, German spot milk is available.

More demand for cheese
Cheese is relatively popular this week, and prices are therefore higher. The quotations for Edam and Gouda rise slightly to €2.795 and €2.805 per tonne. Furthermore, the prices of Mozzarella and Cheddar Curd are under some pressure due to a lot of supply, the prices are dropping slightly and are trading this week at €2.615 and €3.145 per tonne.

Overall, the market feels steady. Trade is slowly starting to pick up again after the summer holidays, but is still quiet. The market is trying to determine which direction to choose once the summer period is over.

Skimmed milk concentrate benefits
Last week there was already a revival and the DCA quotation of cream increased considerably. This week the quotation will also increase slightly and increase by €40 to €4.140 per tonne. This also results in higher prices for butter, the DCA butter quotation this week amounts to €3.390 per tonne. A plus of €55.

Skimmed milk concentrate also managed to continue the significant increase from last week this week. The quotation is still on the rise and increases by €155 to €2.140 per tonne of dry matter. Skimmed milk concentrate is rising with the rising prices for milk powder. For example, the DCA quotation for skimmed milk powder increases by €35 to €2.050 per tonne. Whole milk powder remains stable at €2.665 per tonne.
