Schouten: 'Good score in circular agriculture'

4 September 2020 - Jorine Cosse - 4 comments

The government is making millions available for agricultural entrepreneurs who want to make the switch to circular agriculture. According to Minister Schouten, this is only 1 of the steps that should make it possible for farmers and horticulturists to invest in a sustainable future.

Agricultural entrepreneurs will soon be able to make use of the option to purchase independent expertise via the Subsidy Module Agricultural Business Advice and Education (Sabe). Carola Schouten made this known in a letter to the House of Representatives. A total of €45 million will be made available.

Just the beginning
According to the minister, this measure is only the start of a series of financial schemes that should make investments easier. There will also be a fund for young farmers, a subsidy scheme for making stables more sustainable and fiscal stimulation of circular agriculture through the Environmental Investment Allowance or the Random Depreciation of Environmental Investments.

According to Schouten, the results that led to the measures are the result of cooperation between farmers, nature organisations, provinces and other parties from the government. In addition to the discussions, the ministry is also participating in experiments with innovative company visions in some areas to bring future-proof agriculture closer.

Years of process
Despite the fact that the Minister of LNV is satisfied with the possibilities for the future, she speaks of a 'good score', she does indicate that it will take years to make the full switch to circular agriculture. The economic perspective of the entrepreneurs must be taken into account. In addition to investing in the cover, they should also be able to earn a decent living, according to the minister.

In addition to the measure, Schouten also stated that there is a challenge in strengthening cooperation in circular agriculture in Europe. She also mentioned the nitrogen measure again. In her own words, she wants to offer prospects to farmers who want to quit, as well as farmers who want to continue doing business. In order to financially support those who stay, the ministry is working on a conversion fund in addition to the subsidy scheme.

And we continue to burn money .

All kinds of organizations that write programs and especially hours with a hefty bill as a result.

Incidentally, it is not at all clear to me what the minister wants now, except that she is throwing all kinds of slogans.

It's deeply sad
