FrieslandCampina will sell the so-called 'PlanetProof milk' to other dairies. This should create more room for dairy farmers of the dairy cooperative to qualify for the bonus of €0,02 per kilo on the milk price.
In a statement FrieslandCampina states that PlanetProof milk is sold directly from the farm to other dairies. Spokesperson Jan Willem ter Avest does not want to say who those companies are. "The market has shown interest in purchasing this milk and we are now going to offer that option." The deals with other dairies concern commercial agreements, which cannot be compared with spot trading.

Although this step suggests that FrieslandCampina itself has a surplus of PlanetProof milk, according to Ter Avest this is not the case. This step may also put the competition on the supermarket shelf with PlanetProof dairy products, which would mean FrieslandCampina would cut itself off. Ter Avest reacts lightly to this. "We do not compete on sustainability, but on taste and product experience. This step contributes to the further expansion of the quality mark. That is good for the dairy sector and therefore also for us."
Room for more members
FrieslandCampina now has approximately 600 PlanetProof producers. The goal is to scale up this number by putting the milk, to put it frankly, on sale and offering it to third parties. The spokesperson does not want to say how many extra dairy farmers are involved that can enter. "If we mention numbers, it's going to take on a life of its own and we don't want that."
To qualify for PlanetProof, the location of a dairy farm is one of the determining factors, because it must match the collection route. Ter Avest indicates that there is still sufficient enthusiasm to participate on the current routes, so that is not being tampered with.
