The Chinese dairy brand Yili has knocked Danone off the throne in the 'overall Brand Finance Food 50 2020 ranking' of consultancy firm Brand Finance. The value of the company increased by 2020% in 13. The Netherlands is number 50 in the top 4 with Friso, FrieslandCampina's infant and baby food brand.
Yili's value rose 13% to $8,644 billion. This pushes Danone into second place with a value of $7,825 billion. The top 3 ends with another Chinese dairy, Mengniu with a value of $5,316 billion. The other dairies in the top 10 fall even further away in terms of value. The Dutch Friso stands at $3,739 billion and the top 10 is closed by Almarai from Saudi Arabia with $2,3 billion. See the table below for the complete top 10.
Yili as new number 1
The dairy brand is working hard to become bigger and better known, both nationally and internationally. Yili has been the most valuable dairy brand for China for 5 years now. The company has always managed to infiltrate new areas and aims to create an international network with 2 billion customers this year.
The company recently invested $4,3 billion in a high-end organic dairy production site in central Mongolia that is expected to provide 60.000 workplaces. In addition, this investment is expected to give the local farmers and logistics industry a significant boost.
Internationally, Yili has her sights set on New Zealand. Here, the company is keen to acquire 100% of New Zealand's second-largest dairy processor Westland Milk Products.
Most Valuable Dairy Portfolio
Yili may be the most valuable dairy brand, but in terms of the entire dairy portfolio, they are still well below Nestlé. That company continues to lead the way, followed by Lactalis and Danone. Combined, all Nestlé dairy brands are valued at $12,6 billion. Lactalis is worth $11,7 billion with all its brands and Danone's brands are worth $11,6 billion together. With a value of $8,6 billion, the Chinese dairy brand is no further than fifth.
