French and Italian milk production has fallen in recent months as a result of the corona crisis. The French milk supply has since recovered and is considerably higher in July than last year. Italian milk production is still below last year's level.
In total, approximately 2.013 million kilos of milk were produced in France in July. This makes the level 2,8% higher than in July 2019. It is the first time since March that French milk production has exceeded last year.
Milk production has suffered considerably from the consequences of the corona crisis. Production in June was at a comparable level to last year, but it was higher in July. It should be noted that milk production in July 2019 was significantly lower and was also below the 5-year average at the time.
Italy
Italian dairy farmers managed to produce approximately 965.000 kilos of milk in July, which is 1,4% lower than last year. This means that production has not exceeded last year's level, but there has been a small recovery. In June, milk was still 2,8% below last year's level. It is not clear whether the lower milk production here is also due to the aftermath of the corona crisis, as milk supply has been below the 2019 level since February.
