Last month, FrieslandCampina indicated that it expected lower milk prices, but that prognosis was quickly adjusted. The milk price for October will go up.
The dairy cooperative increases the guaranteed price by 50 cents to €34,25 per 100 kilos. This is the highest level since April when the milk price slipped quite quickly due to the lockdown in many European countries.
Correction included
The increase comes as a surprise. After all, the guaranteed price for September went down even further, whereby the dairy cooperative also noted that it expected lower milk prices from the reference companies. That expectation has not come true.
The increase for next month therefore also includes a correction of the underestimated milk prices of the reference companies. How much that correction is, is not mentioned.
dairy prices
Looking at the development of the dairy market, the increase is a stroke of luck. Although cheese and milk powder prices have shown an upward trend in recent weeks, the rate of increase is not very fast. In addition, the butter price is heading towards lower levels, according to the quotes from DCA.
Already had before Arla too the milk price for October was increased, but that increase could also be seen as a correction. It remains to be seen whether the increases will be followed by other processors in our country.
