The Dutch milk supply has recovered somewhat after a considerable stagnation in August as a result of the heat wave. In September, production is again marginally above last year's level.
In September, Dutch dairy farmers produced a total of 1.110 million tons of milk with an average fat percentage of 4,33%. Compared to the same month last year, production is 0,3% higher.
Daily production amounted to 37.012 tons, compared to 36.785 tons in August. Milk supply has therefore cautiously recovered in September after it was no less than 1,5% lower than last year in August as a result of the heat wave.
Increase over 2020
During the first 7 months of the year, the Dutch milk supply managed to remain above last year's production level. In the first 4 months, production was always well above last year's level. In the following months, the difference narrowed as the corona crisis took hold, but nevertheless production levels continued to exceed last year's quantities.
In August there was a turnaround for the first time this year and milk supply was below last year's level, but in September milk production recovered and is once again recording a plus. On average, Dutch milk production over the first 9 months this year is 1,6% higher than last year. Rabobank predicted at the end of September in a dairy update that the Dutch milk supply will grow by a total of 2020% to 1% for the whole of 1,3. Whether this forecast actually comes true depends on milk production in the last quarter.
