Have you also harvested concentrate maize?

14 October 2020

More Megusto has been grown again this season, and for good reason. For the fourth consecutive year, this maize variety has come out on top with the highest nutritional value yield on the Recommended Variety Lists of the Netherlands and Belgium.

This clearly proves the quality of Megusto. In addition to the highest grain yield, this is also reflected in good figures for agricultural properties, such as earliness of flowering. Growers of Megusto also praise the high nutritional value based on the silage results. This not only leads to a high starch yield, but also to a high starch concentration and digestion coefficient of the total organic matter. This results in a lot of glycogen energy, which has a strong milk-floating effect, so that you can save on concentrate costs.

Megusto is an early single hybrid with an FAO 220. The variety is therefore very suitable for sowing on all soil types throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Due to its earliness in the grain, the variety is also very suitable for harvesting before 1 October. That was again evident this year.

Lots of energy and protein
The cultivation of Megusto in combination with the post-sowing of Fast Spring Rye is therefore a very interesting solution for harvesting a lot of energy and a lot of protein from your own soil. Ask your regional KWS advisor for addresses of growers with this practical experience! The breed is characterized by its sturdy and stocky stature. The flasks are very uniform and filled to the top.

concentrate maize
With Megusto, more starch is harvested per hectare and per kilogram of dry matter, so that less concentrate has to be purchased. That is why the term 'concentrate maize' is a very appropriate one for Megusto.
