Dairy farmers in Australia produced considerably more milk in August than last year. Especially in the state of Tasmania, the milk supply has increased considerably. Milk production has also grown in New Zealand.
Milk production in Australia was 3,5% higher in August than last year. In total, approximately 717 thousand kilos were milked. The average fat percentage was 4,06%, which is significantly higher than last year, when the fat percentage was 3,9%. The protein content has not changed much compared to last year and has increased by 0,01% to 3,46%.
The regional percentage increase in milk production was highest in Tasmania, where milk production grew by 9,8% compared to last year. Milk supplies also increased in the states of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. In Queensland and Western Australia, less milk was produced than last year.
New Zealand
Milk supplies have also increased in New Zealand. In August, 1.468 million kilos of milk were produced. This means the level is no less than 5% higher than last year. The milk supply also recorded a big plus compared to the previous month and 4 times more milk is produced. This large increase is due to the seasonal trend. Milk production has just emerged from the annual off-peak period and is now working towards the annual peak moment in October.
