Milk production in the United Kingdom is unable to match 2019 figures this year. Production in August also remains below the level of the previous year. In Ireland, however, an upward trend can be seen.
British dairy farmers hardly managed to increase milk supply during the first 8 months of the year compared to last year. Only in the month of May was last year's level exceeded, only to collapse again the following month.
In August, less milk was again produced than last year. In total, milk production was approximately 1,235 million kilos, about 0,5% below the level of August 2019. However, the figures are not terribly low, milk supply still scores 0,9% above the 5-year average.
Increase in Ireland
In Ireland there is an opposite trend. Milk supply has been above last year's level since April and this trend continued in August. In total, Irish dairy farmers supplied around 893 thousand kilos of milk in August, which is approximately 2,9% higher than last year. Compared to the 5-year average, greater growth is visible, no less than 7,9%.
New Glanbia factory
The Irish dairy business is now also making good progress outside the country's borders. Dairy processor Glanbia announced on October 21 new cheese factory opened in the United States. The new factory, called MWC, is located in Michigan and will process 3,6 million liters of milk per day into block cheese and high-quality whey products.
