A total of 2.708 million kilos of milk was produced in New Zealand in September. Compared to the same period last year, milk production is 1,7% higher and even about 3% above the 5-year average. Milk production also significantly exceeds the supply of the previous month, but this is due to the seasonal trend. The percentage growth over the past few months is decreasing, in August the milk supply was still 5% above the level of last year.

Australia
Australia is also producing more milk than last year, but the growth in milk production is decreasing on an annual basis. A total of approximately 859 thousand kilos of milk was produced, which means the production level is 0,2% above last year. Compared to previous months, this is a dip. Compared to the 5-year average, production this year is 1,7% lower.

The average fat content is 4,02%, compared to 3,86% last year. At 3,43%, the protein content is at a comparable level to last year.

In the state of Victoria, where most milk is produced, milk supplies have shrunk compared to last year. With a production of approximately 570 thousand kilos of milk, the share in total Australian milk production has fallen from 66,8% to 66,4%. Supply also failed to match 2019 figures in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. Growth was achieved in South Australia and Tasmania, where milk production increased by 4,3% and 6,6% respectively.
