The French milk supply fluctuates throughout the year. If we compare the milk production with last year, there is no stable trend. In October, milk production is below last year's level. In Italy there are fewer fluctuations and the milk supply in October is actually higher.
In France, the milk supply is not good this season. There is no such thing as a stable trend, because every month there are differences in production compared to last year. In the first 3 months of 2020, the production levels of last year were still exceeded, but that line could not be continued. In the following months, supply was both below and above last year's level.
In the month of September there was a plus, but this quickly changed. Milk production in October was lower again. In total, French dairy farmers have produced approximately 1.954 million kilos of milk. That is 0,7% less than in the same period last year and almost 0,2% below the 5-year average.
Italy
The Italian milk supply has shown a somewhat more stable line this year. From February, the dairy farmers could no longer match the production levels of last year, but since August this turned around and the milk supply was again a plus compared to last year.
The upward trend continues in October as well and the milk supply was higher than last year. In total, around 942.000 kilos of milk were produced, an increase of 0,4% compared to October 2019. The difference with the 5-year average is larger, namely a plus of 2,2%.
