Cono Kaasmakers is taking a new step in sustainability. The cooperative only produces cheese without any form of GMO.
Zuivelcoöperatie Cono will now only produce GMO-free cheeses. This means that no genetically modified food is used. The dairy farmers who supply milk to the cooperative feed the cows with GMO-free feed.

The ration of those cows consists largely of grass. The concentrate that the cows receive consists of raw materials that have been grown GMO-free. Cono, however, aims to reduce the use of concentrates and increase the degree of self-sufficiency in home-grown roughage. The more fresh grass the cows receive, the less concentrates need to be supplied from elsewhere.
The adjustment in operational management was initiated last year. Wim Betten, the general manager of Cono Kaasmakers: "Our cooperative stands for real and tasty products of high quality. GMO-free cheese is a great example of this".
