It is very quiet on the phosphate rights market, as is the case every year around this time. However, the first rights traded in 2021 have now been traded, the price level is significantly lower than in previous years.
In the first weeks of the year, trading in phosphate rights was virtually at a standstill and virtually no rights were traded. The first lots have now been traded, but these are small quantities and the overall sentiment on the market remains very calm.
Some rights are offered, but the dairy farmers are still watching the cat out of the tree. This is partly due to limited financial space.
Low price level
The DCA quotation for purchasing rights this week amounts to €124 per right, which is €2 below the price level of last week. Trading in lease rights is not popular at this time of year, which results in no listing.
When the current price level is compared with those of previous years, it is striking that the price is a lot lower this year and has even reached the lowest level in years.
