Polish milk production remains stable

In December, Polish dairy processors collected 1.016,13 million tons of milk. That is about 1,1% more than in December 2019 and about 4% higher than the 5-year average. A year earlier, 1.004,50 million tons were collected in December and the 5-year average was 977,57 million tons.

Compared to November, when the milk collection amounted to 959,84 million tons, an increase of almost 6% is visible. It is not surprising that this increase is so large. Milk supply always increases in December, according to figures from recent years.

The fact that milk production once again remains above the level of previous years is somewhat striking. This is because in the other European countries a lower milk supply visible due to the measures surrounding the coronavirus. After all, many sales markets have disappeared. In Poland, only a dip appears to be visible in April, when the supply was almost at the level of 2019. The Polish dairy farmers had to deal with extreme drought in recent years, which caused a significant drop in milk yield. This year that is much less the case, which may explain the catching up.

The year 2020 ended
Now that the figures for December are known, we can take a look at the whole of 2020. Over the whole year, milk production amounts to 12.457,22 million tons. That is an increase of about 2,3% compared to last year, when total milk production amounted to 12.174,97 million tons. Compared to the 5-year average, a plus of almost 5% (11.871,01 million tons) is visible.
