'Market for A2 milk will triple'

16 February 2021 - Kimberly Bakker

The worldwide market for A2 milk will more than triple in the coming years, according to research agency AMR. In 2027, a market value of $3,69 billion is expected. In particular, the fact that consumers are more conscious about their health contributes to growth.

The growing demand from consumers for healthier products has a positive effect on the market for A2 milk. At least, that's what research agency AMR expects. The global A2 market was valued at $2019 billion in 1,12, but is expected to triple to about $2027 billion by 3,69. Incidentally, the increase is somewhat inhibited by the high price of A2 milk in relation to conventional milk.

Effect of coronavirus
The corona virus affects the purchasing behavior of consumers, that should be clear by now. The worldwide awareness to improve and strengthen the immune system is forcing many consumers to adopt a 'healthier' lifestyle. “This has clearly boosted the global A2 milk market,” the researchers say. They do not expect this trend to weaken as quickly as consumers have become accustomed to it. Hence the expectations for strong growth up to and including 2027.

The most important distribution channel for A2 milk has been the supermarkets in recent years. About 33% of the entire market revenue came from that channel. Finally, the researchers report that A2 milk was the most popular in 2019 in the Asia-Pacific region, with a share of about 40%. That will still be the case by 2027, although the North American market is quickly following.
