Megusto is an early single hybrid with an FAO 220. The variety is therefore very suitable for sowing on all soil types throughout the Benelux. Due to its earliness in the grain, the variety is also very suitable for harvesting before 1 October. That has been evident again this year. The cultivation of Megusto in combination with the post-sowing of Fast Spring Rye is therefore a very interesting solution for harvesting a lot of energy and a lot of protein from your own soil.
The breed is characterized by its sturdy and stocky stature. The flasks are very uniform and filled to the top. With Megusto, more starch is harvested per hectare and per kilogram of dry matter, which saves on feed costs. That is why Megusto is so popular and the right choice for many growers.
Very good silage results with Megusto in practice
At the competition: 'Who has the best pit result with Megusto?' that was written in the December issue of the trade journal De Maïsteler, there was a massive response.
Many growers have sent their silage results to the editors of De Maïsteler. The editors have assessed the results on the most important nutritional value characteristics such as VEM/kg ds and starch/kg ds.
On average, all pits contain based on the results received 1.005 VEM and 402 grams starch per kilogram of dry matter. This is clearly better than the average of all maize silages examined by Eurofins Agro in 2020 with 985 VEM and 363 grams of starch respectively. This means that the starch concentration of the Megusto silages is no less than 10% higher than all maize silages examined.
The winners with the best pits are:
The editors of De Maïsteler wish them a lot of fun with their prizes and would like to thank everyone for their participation!
