Poland kicks off year with significantly higher milk supply

During the first month of the new year, the Polish dairy farmers have significantly increased milk production, both compared to December and compared to previous years. With this, the Poles, like New Zealand dairy farmers, achieved the highest milk supply figure for January in years.

For the month of January, milk production in Poland amounted to 1.050.110 million tons. It is the highest milk production in years. Last year, the milk supply for the first month of the year was 1,04 million tons, a difference of approximately 0,5% compared to this year. In calendar year 2016, milk production did not exceed 917.250 tons. It means that the milk supply in Poland has increased by approximately 14,5% since that year. This increased production is partly due to the greater demand for dairy products.

This increasing trend is in line with global milk supply figures. This is how the New Zealand milk supply for the month of January also at the highest level in years: a plus of approximately 2,6% compared to 2017. Dairy farmers in the United States are also recording best start to the season since at least 2003. It remains to be seen whether other European countries will follow this trend. This is because the corona crisis has indeed affected milk production in other countries.

Trend is maintained
Relative to the month of December there is an increase of approximately 3,3%. In this month, milk supplies in Poland amounted to 1,01 million tons. A small dip is expected in the coming month, which is in line with the country's seasonal trend. The peak of Polish milk production is usually reached in May.
