Milk production in France lagged slightly behind the 5-year average in January. This is evident from the latest data submitted to the European Commission. Compared to December, another plus is visible. This means that the French milk supply is on its way to the peak.
Dairy processors in France collected 2,11 million tons of milk in January. It is approximately 3,1% less than last year. The milk supply in the first month then amounted to 2,17 million tons, although that year also had more working days. Compared to the 5-year average of 2,15 million tons, a negative difference of 1,9% is visible. The fact that production is lower than in other years is due to difficult weather conditions in recent years and the relatively low milk prices.
On the way to seasonal peak
Let's look back at a month before, then production has been increased slightly in January. For the month of December, the French milk supply amounted to 2,06 million tons, a difference of approximately 2,2% compared to now. Even then, less was produced than the average of recent years.
For next month, milk supplies in France are expected to drop again, before rising to the seasonal peak. Last year, milk supplies reached this peak in February, a supply of 2,22 million tonnes. The 5-year average of the seasonal peak is 2,21 million tons and is reached in May.
