Dairy farmers in Italy produced almost as much milk in January as they did a year ago. Compared to the 5-year average, an increase of approximately 0,7% is visible. With that, the Italian milk supply kicks off 2021 well.
Dairy processors in Italy collected 1,02 million tons of milk in the first month of the year. That is slightly less compared to the result of 1,05 million tons for the month December (-3%). Compared to the same month a year earlier, a very minimal decrease of 0,01% is also visible. In January 2020, Italian milk supplies, with the exception of a few tons, also amounted to 1,02 million tons.
Although the above actually concerns twice a decrease, it can still be said that milk production in Italy is starting the year well. Compared to the 5-year average of 1,01 million tons, there is a visible increase of 0,7%. The difference with the 2018 and 2019 seasons is also 1% and 0,8% respectively.
On the way to peak
Just like in France, Italian milk production is also on its way to its seasonal peak. Last year this was achieved in March, with a milk production of 1,06 million tonnes. In the 2 previous seasons, the seasonal peak was slightly longer, and there were high supply figures throughout the period from March to May.
