Due to the moderate milk price and relatively high feed prices, livestock farmers are cautious about purchasing more. What is needed is simply purchased. However, in many cases, having an extra load delivered is not an option.

More supply of silage grass
The silage market has picked up in the past week. Livestock farmers who are sure that they have sufficient silage now want to take advantage of the high prices and offer leftover grass. Good quality silage grass, which is suitable for dairy goats, costs an average of €70 per tonne delivered to the silo. Grass of a slightly lower quality is approximately €5 to €10 cheaper per tonne.

The trade in silage maize has slumped somewhat at the moment. Some work is still being done, but less than in other years. There are not many suppliers of corn and there is not much demand for it. The average price in the DCA indication quotation is €67,50 per tonne. That is €2,50 lower than last week. According to several traders, livestock farmers are expecting an early spring. Then they can supplement the ration with fresh grass instead of corn.

Good demand for spent grains
The demand for Beer Bostel remains good. The price is at the same level as last week, namely €2,90 per percent dry matter. According to some forage traders, sorting companies are processing slightly more potatoes. This means more feed potatoes are coming onto the market. The price is €40 per ton, €5 cheaper than last week.

Prices for hay and straw remain stable. There is little stock left in the Netherlands, which is why many traders buy hay and straw from abroad. Wheat straw costs around €145 per tonne, meadow hay is around €200 per tonne and grass seed hay at €150 per tonne.
