The Malaysian dairy company Dutch Lady Milk Industries (DMLI) is planning to build a new milk factory. The company, which FrieslandCampina owns with a stake of just under 51%, will build the production location in Bandar Enstek, in western Malaysia.
The new factory is to replace the current production location in Petaling Jaya. This factory has been operating since 1963 and only produces halal dairy products.
DLMI produces fresh and UHT (Ultra Heated Temperature) milk, milk powder, yoghurts and various milk drinks under the Dutch Lady brand. The processing capacity of the new location will be higher than the current factory, which will allow dairy farming in Malaysia to develop further. DMLI also wants to expand the product range, in other words to produce more dairy products.
Sustainable factory
The construction company Royal HaskoningDHV will design, build and start up the new milk factory. The company also plans to help transition from the old to the new factory. DLMI has stated that the new dairy must be better for safety, the environment and sustainability.
DLMI is a publicly traded company on the Malaysian stock exchange. The company has a market capitalization of MYR 2,2 billion (more than €443 million) and has around 600 employees.
