The trade in phosphate rights is still relatively quiet. Lots are being traded, but there is no pressure. What is the relationship between supply and demand at the moment?
Seasonally, the demand for phosphate rights is somewhat moderate around this time of year. Spring work has priority in good weather conditions and trade is therefore at a low level. However, it is not the case that trade has come to a complete standstill.
A number of lots have been traded in the past week, commission agents confirm. Now that milk prices have also found their way back up, there is better sentiment in the market and more room for purchasing.
Supply and demand relationship
In the past week there has been some more supply on the market. Both supply and demand are not great at the moment, but when the two are compared, supply currently has a slight upper hand.
In the previous weeks there have been some price fluctuations due to the supply and demand relationship. For example, the DCA quotation of phosphate rights increased to €16 in week 135,50. The quotation has now dropped to €134. This means that the price is well above last year's level and there is a positive difference of almost 14%.
