Cono Kaasmakers wants to be climate positive with its entire cheese chain by 2030. The cheese maker, known from Beemster Kaas, among others, reports this in a press release. The company is thus taking further steps in its ambitious sustainability policy.
Based on European guidelines, the government has determined where the Netherlands should stand in terms of sustainability in 2030 and 2050. These objectives include CO2 reduction and being climate neutral. Cono Kaasmakers goes one step further and talks about being climate positive. "This means that we will remove CO2 from the air, for example by planting trees or by capturing CO2 in the soil," it writes. "The cheese factory is already climate neutral and that is why we are now committing ourselves to the ambition to make the entire cheese chain climate positive."
Roadmap
Cono Kaasmakers has drawn up various steps to become climate positive. For example, the sustainability program Caring Dairy contains 18 indicators to make farms more sustainable. In addition, further efforts are being made to make transport, packaging and cheese making more sustainable. Managing Director Wim Betten: "It is a beautiful thing to express ambition. More people should do that. I have no doubt that we will also do this job with our generations of knowledge and craftsmanship. If we want to be climate positive, it goes one way or the other. happen to the right."
Betten continues: "Of course we will listen to our members and our environment. We will actively work on innovative projects that reduce or capture our CO2 emissions.
