Milk production in France is lower in March this year than in the same month last year. This is evident from the supply data that France has passed on to the European Commission. French dairy farms have been supplying less milk for some time now.
Milk production in France fell by 1,4% in March compared to last year. A total of 2.201.000 tons of milk was delivered to processors in March. In recent months there has also been a lower milk supply in France compared to the same month a year earlier.
The months of March to May are the peak season in terms of milk supply for France. This is due to good roughage quality in the spring. French milk production has remained virtually unchanged over the past 5 years and there is no visible trend towards French dairy farmers increasing milk production.
French dairy industry does not want growth
The 5-year average for the month of March is also close to last March, with 2.211.300 tons of milk. The French milk supply is a partially regulated market, which is also strongly linked to the French government. In addition, the French dairy industry is not interested in further interfering with the global dairy market specifically with French milk, which means that dairy production will not increase.
