KWS corn seed service in practice

31 May 2021

It took a while, but the corn has been sown in most places. Hopefully the start of an otherwise good growing season with a good yield at the end. That is what we are all up to.

We experience all too often that things do not always go the way we would like. Sometimes due to factors beyond our control. Or where we are wrong. At KWS we are always ready to advise on how to grow the crop as well as possible.

Prevent bird eating
Birds can also cause great damage by pecking corn seed or even whole plants from the ground. This is a major problem in many fields this spring. To prevent bird damage, KWS uses the new innovative maize seed treatment INITIO Bird Protect on the seed of all KWS maize varieties. INITIO Bird Protect contains an effective bird feeder repellent and all ingredients for a smooth germination. It promotes root health and phosphate uptake and reduces cold stress symptoms. All this results in rapid growth to the 4-6 leaf stage without plant losses.

Watch the interesting video in which Matthias Stauffer of KWS presents the results of the application of Initio Bird Protect in the field.

KWS corn seed service as part of myKWS
In case of a problematic situation at the beginning of the cultivation (germination, youth growth) where reseeding is strongly recommended or even necessary, KWS has set up the Maize Seed Service. KWS-Maizezaadservice is not an insurance, but a support in case of necessary reseeding.

In such a situation, KWS will supply the seed for the re-sowing at half the normal invoice price. This regardless of the reason for the problems. We do this to provide some support for the grower to achieve the best yield for the given situation. In order to make use of this program, it is important that a choice has been made at the start from the varieties that are included in that program. Immediately after sowing, you are asked to definitively register the sown fields. This can be done via your own login under myKWS at the website.

Growers who have registered can use the Maize Seed Service. After that, it is up to you as a grower to ask for advice during cultivation or to report and discuss problem situations. After damage in any form whatsoever in the registered plots, 50% of the maize seed costs will be reimbursed. This regulation is valid for the KWS maize varieties Exelon (FAO 170), Autens (FAO 180), Prixdor (FAO 190), Papageno (FAO 200), Megusto (FAO 220), Memento (FAO 210, Johaninio (FAO 230), Genialis (FAO 230), Corazon (FAO 235), Figaro (FAO 240) and Camillo (FAO 250).

myKWS can also be used on your smartphone. Go to the Google Play store to download the myKWS app. When you have done this, you can register yourself by logging in. This is a simple and one-time activity.

myKWS contains several other useful tools such as the Weather tool for the current weather situation in your area and the forecast for the longer term. in the tool Vitality control maize fields in the app you can see the plots you have already created and you can also add new plots. With the new tool field explorer you can mark exactly the relevant locations and add notes for later. You can also involve your KWS advisor in this. field explorer allows you to send important questions and comments directly to your KWS advisor.

myKWS is continuously expanded with helpful tools to support the cultivation and use of maize. You will be informed about this with every extension.
