Danone also reorganizes dairy division

June 2, 2021 - Chanti Oussoren

The French food group Danone is going to undergo major restructuring, including at the dairy division and baby food producer Nutricia. According to a statement from the company, this will lead to the loss of office jobs, including in Belgium.

The restructuring decision follows the company's announcement in November 2020 regarding cost savings, limiting the product range and reorganizing the company. Danone plans to restructure its Alpro, Danone Dairy and Vegetables, Danone Waters and Nutricia businesses.

According to these plans, around 2022 office jobs in Belgium will become redundant by the end of 120. The production locations in Rotselaar and Wevelgem are exempt from the interventions, because €180 million was recently invested in those locations. Jobs are not only being lost in Belgium, elsewhere in the world Danone will cut approximately 1.850 office jobs. Today, Danone employs more than 100.000 people in 120 different markets.

New CEO
The company has also announced that it has found a new CEO. In March, former CEO Emmanuel Faber was fired from his position. Faber had to pack up at the time on the authority of some major shareholders. They found the company's profitability to be insufficient compared to competitors.

The baton will be handed over to Antoine de Saint-Affrique, who will step down as CEO of the Swiss chocolate producer Barry Callebaut at the end of August. There had been speculation for some time that Saint-Affrique was on his way to the top job at Danone when he announced his retirement from Barry Callebaut on April 22.
