Demonstrations will take place in various countries in Europe this month because dairy farmers want to see the milk price higher. On 27 May, there were already demonstrations in Bonn, Germany, because of the relatively low milk prices, while dairy quotations are rising sharply.
The European Milk Board (EMB) already announced the demonstrations in May. The dairy farming sector in Europe needs new entrepreneurs to produce food and in order to make this possible, it must still remain financially profitable, according to the EMB.
In recent years many European dairy farmers have had a hard time. Extreme weather conditions, especially a lot of drought, are causing financially difficult circumstances. Crop yields are lower, which raises costs. The milk price has also been at a lower level for several years.
