FrieslandCampina hangs millions of dollars over head

June 8, 2021 - Eric de Lijster

FrieslandCampina faces a million dollar loss in a lawsuit that a business customer of the cooperative dairy group has filed in Thailand. The court rules that FrieslandCampina must pay €57 million in damages. The company is appealing.

FrieslandCampina announced this on Tuesday morning (8 June). The ruling of the court in Thailand was on May 31 this year. Based on the interpretation of the contract between FrieslandCampina and this customer, the court concludes that FrieslandCampina charged the customer too much between 2009 and 2019, the group reports in a statement.

Based on this judgment, FrieslandCampina must compensate the customer for a total amount of Thai Baht 2,2 billion (€ 57 million). FrieslandCampina does not agree with the verdict and will appeal against it. This contractual relationship ended at the end of 2019. Possible consequences for FrieslandCampina's results are being studied, the group reports.
