The Belgian dairy group Milcobel is strengthening its position on the mozzarella market. The dairy cooperative announces the acquisition of the grater and packaging company Kaasbrik in Halen, Belgium, in Limburg.
The acquisition strengthens the Belgian dairy cooperative's position in the production, processing and marketing of mozzarella. Over the past year, the family business Kaasbrik positioned itself as a specialist in grating mozzarella, in addition to grating and packaging other cheeses.
The packaging company has a processing capacity of 10.500 tons of cheese with a turnover of €40 million and has customers in more than 20 countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The 30 or so employees will be taken over by Milcobel and the Halen location will be kept as a separate production unit.
Ideal partner
Nils van Dam, CEO of Milcobel, says the acquisition of Kaasbrik will strengthen its position in the global mozzarella market. "There is a very great complementarity between Milcobel and Kaasbrik. Mozzarella is a difficult and high-quality product that requires the necessary expertise and with Kaasbrik we have found the ideal partner." They are also pleased with the takeover from Kaasbrik. "Kaasbrik will come into the hands of a strong Belgian company with the same values," said Johan de Turk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kaasbrik.
