Dairy farmers in New Zealand produced a total of 974.000 tons of milk in May. Production this month has never been this high in New Zealand. Milk supply is considerably lower than the month before (April), but this follows the seasonal trend. Because it is now winter in New Zealand, grass-fed dairy farming is working towards the valley in this month of June.

If we compare the production in May with the same period last year, it is 7,6% higher. The percentage growth is decreasing compared to the previous month, in April milk production was still 10% above the level of last year. Compared to the 5-year average, the positive difference is 9,8%.

floods
The relative decrease compared to the previous months can be explained. The current weather conditions are making it difficult for dairy farms in New Zealand. Due to flooding, a number of dairy farmers have even have to wash away milk because it could not be collected by milk processors.
