Milk production Australia breaks with trend in May

Australian dairy farmers produced more milk in May than last year. The increase was highest in Queensland and Tasmania is lowest.

In total, approximately 670.000 tons of milk were produced in May. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 3,1% respectively. Compared to the 5-year average, growth is slightly smaller, namely 2,7%. It is the first time since January this year that milk production has exceeded both last year's level and the 5-year average.

Manufacturing in Queensland is growing the most
There was a percentage growth in all individual states in May. The most significant growth in May took place in Queensland. No less than 4,4% more milk was produced there than last year. The state of Victoria, where by far the most milk is produced, also contributed. 2,2% more milk was produced there than last year. In April there was no growth in Victoria and milk production was actually below last year's level.

In the state of Tasmania the percentage growth was the smallest at 0,5%. In the remaining states, growth hovered between 2% and 4%.

Weather conditions
The growing milk supply is expected to be related to better weather conditions in the country and a higher milk price. It turned out earlier that it was confidence in the future is increasing among dairy farmers in Australia.
