The trade in phosphate rights is currently at a low ebb. It is calm on both the supply and demand side and with all the buzz about the nitrogen crisis, there is a wait and see attitude.
Last week, as in previous weeks, hardly any rights were traded. Insiders confirm that there are few calls for phosphate rights. This has everything to do with the seasonal trend: the holiday period has arrived and dairy farmers currently have other priorities than purchasing phosphate rights.
Today there were again peasant protests and the telephone hardly rang at all for phosphate rights traders. However, a few small lots were traded earlier this week. The DCA quotation of phosphate rights remains stable this week at €143 per kilo. Compared to the same period last year, the price is not much higher. At the time the price was listed at €140.
Calm waters
The trade in phosphate rights is expected to remain very quiet in the coming period. There is currently a lot of uncertainty surrounding the nitrogen crisis and dairy farmers still have plenty of time to purchase phosphate rights before the end of the year.
