Dutch milk production was lower in June than the year before. For almost the entire year, production figures have been below last year's levels and the 5-year average. The decline was stronger in June. Production for this month is at its lowest level since 2014.
A total of 1.128.190 tons of milk was produced by Dutch dairy farmers in June. That is well below last year's level (1.154.850 tons) and the 5-year average (1.159.510 tons). Compared to last year, the decrease is 2,2%, compared to the 5-year average even 2,6%. The last time production was even lower was in June 2014, when dairy farmers delivered 1.045.600 tons of milk to processors.
Fat production also lower
Total fat production in the month of June was 48.197 tons. That was 3,2% (1.145 tons) lower than in 2020. The fat contents were unchanged compared to last year at 4,27%. This year, only the month of May managed to equal the production of the previous year.
The precise cause of the dip in milk production can largely be traced back to the relatively cool weather and high feed prices. Compound feed prices have been on an upward trend for a long time and showed a sharp increase again in June.
