Flooding caused major problems in the country last week. The dairy trade was also affected by this, and cream in particular suffered as a result. Orders were canceled and therefore a lot of supply suddenly became available. This caused a drop in the cream price at the beginning of the week.

However, the offer was quickly taken up. The lower price of cream made it more attractive for butter producers to purchase. As the week progressed, the price rose again. This has limited the decline in the price of cream and as a result the DCA quotation this week falls by €60 less sharply than expected. The price is quoted at €4.405 per tonne.

The DCA quotation for butter drops this week by €45 to €3.755 per tonne. The market is somewhat weaker and according to dairy traders, butter is currently difficult to sell.

Spot milk
Spot milk still remains scarce and pricey. The DCA quotation of Dutch spot milk is stable this week at €40 per 100 kilos. The price is therefore no less than €7 above last year's level. Spot milk is also pricey in Germany, but price levels are not as high as in the Netherlands. In Northern Germany spot milk currently costs €36 and in Southern Germany the price is €38.

Powders
In general, the powder market is very quiet. Buyers are on vacation or have a wait-and-see attitude. Prices are stable to slightly increasing. The DCA quotation for skimmed milk powder drops this week by €30 to €2.415 per tonne. Whole milk powder must be depreciated by €20 to €3.050 per tonne.

Cheese market in balance
There is also peace and quiet at the cheese market. The market is described as in balance: there are no shortages or surpluses. There is good demand compared to production and the age of the cheese is declining somewhat. Prices from Edam and Gouda show a slight decrease of €10 and €15 per tonne. The price of mozzarella has fallen the most this week at €55.
