14 Milcobel member dairy farmers who, despite a withdrawal ban, left the Belgian dairy cooperative have been proven right in summary proceedings. The ban will be suspended for the members who have brought the case. Milcobel appeals.
This is reported by the site Vilt.be. Milcobel had banned members to resign between April 5 and July 1. The company wanted to prevent the milk supply from declining to such an extent that operations would be disrupted. Many members left the cooperative in the months before the withdrawal freeze due to dissatisfaction with the policy and the milk price. Due to the ban, members could only leave the cooperative from April 2022 due to the notice period.
Several dairy farmers have canceled their membership despite the ban. 14 of them filed summary proceedings. According to Vilt, only these members could leave the cooperative with this ruling (after their notice period has expired).
The dairy cooperative will appeal, meaning the decision could still be reversed.
