Millions in funding for Scottish dairy sector

28 July 2021 - Chanti Oussoren

A digital project, Digital Dairy Value-Chain, aimed at optimizing the dairy sector in South West Scotland, has received £21 million in funding.

Digital Dairy Value-Chain will stimulate research and innovation to support dairy farmers in developing their business. In addition, the project should create more jobs and help the sector to become low-carbon. In collaboration with partners from the region, the platform will help train the workforce and create new products and innovative ways of working. The UKRI Strength in Places fund is financing £21,3 million in the project.

South West Scotland is often referred to as the heart of Scottish dairy farming and accounts for almost half of the total dairy herd. Almost 2 billion liters of milk are produced and the project is expected to generate an additional £60 million per year and create 600 new jobs.
